Unitary Enterprise “Belarusian Institute of Vegetable Growing” of National Academy of Science of the Republic of Belarus Information and recommendations on application of humic preparation “Hydrohumin” M.F.Stepuro, Frame Area and Agrochemistry Department Manager in «Belarusian Institute of Vegetable Growing», Candidate of Agricultural Science. Hydrohumic fertilizers are the important source of increasing the crop yield of cucumber, tomato, cabbage, carrots and other vegetables. Among numerous technologies to raise a crop and quality of vegetables, the major method is surface fertilizing with humics by spraying leaves, blossoms and stalks. This way of entering hydrohumic fertilizers provides plants with nutrients in a vegetation period. Such cultures as cucumber, tomato and pepper sweet are in great need of top-dressing especially after the fourth fruit gathering. Under adverse weather conditions plants experience the lack of nutrients in leaves and the cucumber crop is decreased by 20-30 %. The majority of owners of private vegetable gardens apply fertilizers directly under a root of a plant. However the most effective way of fertilizer application is spraying leaves, stalks and blossoms, for in this way plants receive nutrients through leaves and cover the lack of nutrients within 3-4 hours instead of 1.5-2 days by usual root dressing. Beside humic acids and biologically active substances hydrohumic fertilizer contains nitrogen in two forms – nitrate and ammoniac – in amount of 2287 mg/l, calcium and magnesium 7500 and 2200 mg/l accordingly, with the solution having alkaline condition of рН-9,2. After entering hydrohumin leaves of plants, especially of cucumber, cabbage, tomato, carrots get dark green colour, plants are less subject to such diseases as mealy dew, peronosporosis, late blight and others. The general concentration of salts in a solution makes 52,1 g/l, the liquid fertilizer contains humic acids encouraging the plants to easily digest biologically active substances. Hydrohumin is a biological immunostimulator for plant growth, root system and also an inductor for development and blossom of cucumber, tomato and pepper sweet. Hydrohumin is characterized as an antistressful matter to mobilize protective forces of plants and allows receiving high crops irrespective of sharp fluctuations of temperature in a vegetation period. Hydrohumin is of great use to plants and it can be applied with no threat to the environment. The preparation is ecologically friendly and is not dangerous to bees and other insects. With hydrohumin applied the sprouts do not get extended and get perfectly acclimatized after singling and planting to a constant place. Burns of plants and abscission of seed-buds and fruits are excluded. The plants processed by a preparation are high resistant to diseases and blasts (root rots, nematodes and others). Researches in Belarusian Institute of Vegetable Growing show that Hydrohumin reinforce the immunity of plants to fungal and bacterial diseases, promotes better supply of mineral elements in extreme conditions (drought, low temperatures, overhumidity), prolongs the vegetation period of cucumber, tomato and other vegetable cultures for 5-7 days and improves the quality of production. Sprouts of cucumbers, tomatoes and other vegetable cultures are to be sprayed a day prior to singling or planting to the soil. The dosage is 60 ml per 10 l of water for the area of 250 м². During the vegetative period table root crops and cabbage are sprayed for the first time in a phase of intensive increase of the vegetative weight, for the second time - in the beginning of formation the root crop and cabbage, and for the third time - in the period of increasing the weight of productive bodies. The dosage for cucumber and carrots is 100 ml per 10 l of water at the first and the second non-root dressings and 150 ml per 10 l of water at the third dressing for the area of 250 м². The dosage for table beet and cabbage is 125 ml the first and the second non-root dressings and 175 ml per 10 l of water at the third dressing for the area of 250 м². Plants are recommended to be sprayed in a windless day in the early morning or in the afternoon after 4 p.m. It is not recommended to spray the cultures in intense heat. The solution of Hydrohumin is to be sprayed evenly on leaves and stalks of plants to get full wetting of the green mass. The working solution is to be prepared in the day of processing and used within three days. Due to top-dressing with Hidrohumin the area of leaves, in particular, the area of cucumber leaves, has raised by 1283-1407 sm2 or 13-15 %, in comparison with the area of leaves of 9710-9397 sm2 without preparation entering. Therefore the increase of a cucumber has made 11-14 t/hectares or 23-29 %, table beets accordingly by 8,6-19,3 t/hectares or 26-59 %, carrots - 4,2-4,8 t/hectares or 7-8 % and cabbage - by 12-14 t/hectares or 10-12 %. The major condition of application of Hidrogumin was to define its influence on accumulation of nitrates in vegetable production. As a result the crop of cucumber, table root crops and cabbage contained less nitrates in comparison with maximum permissible quantities. So the content of nitrates in cucumber after Hidrohumin application has made 30 mg/kg. On the whole the content of nitrates has decreased by 279-321 mg/kg of crude weight in root crops of table beet. The sum of sugars in vegetables has raised by 0,5-2,9 %. Thus, the results of the researches made in «Belarusian Institute of Vegetable Growing» concerning the influence of a humic preparation Hydrogumin in cultivation of cucumber, tomato, table beet, carrots and cabbage have shown its positive impact on productivity increase, improvement of biochemical indicators of production and growth of marketability of table root crops and cabbage. On the basis of these data «Belarusian Institute of Vegetable Growing» recommends the preparation Hydrohumin for wide use on vegerable-growing fields, as well as on farmlands and small holdings.
